Community Works

Year round you hear of people donating clothing, unwanted or used items in their home. They do it for a write-off, to make room for new things or just because they want to give to someone less fortunate.

Is it hard to believe that the gift of writing can be volunteered to help someone less fortunate?
Due to the change in the economy many people find themselves in shelters across the U.S. The wonderful thing about many shelters is they try to offer services to help people bounce back and become a part of society.

They go back to basics about everything. This is where the writer comes in handy.

On a weekly basis volunteers with writing skills can be used to:
Create resume
Journal workshop
Teach basic writing skills
Poetry workshop

Most shelters ask for 2-4 hours a week commitment but will work with the volunteer schedule. The important thing is to give people hope and tools to succeed.

Taking the time to give back to the community only helps the growth plus development. It is an essential task that is being neglected but there is hope if writers take the time to give.
